Electioneering

The postman delivered a stack of ‘Election Communications’ this morning. Interesting to have a look at the front covers of the various leaflets and also see what slogan each candidate has decided upon to encapsulate their campaign. Strangely there was no leaflet from the Ulster Unionists in this morning’s delivery – perhaps it will arrive tomorrow.

So for those of you who are interested here, in alphabetical order according to party, are shots of the all important front cover and slogan.

Alliance, Ian Parsley: "Replace the politics of fear with the politics of hope."

DUP, Diane Dodds: "Strong Leadership in challenging times."

Green Party, Steven Agnew: "For a green new deal."

Alban Maginness, SDLP: "When we win you win."

Bairbre deBrun, Sinn Fein: "Putting Ireland first."

Jim Allister, TUV: "Experience, Principle, Integrity."

Jim Allister, TUV: "Experience, Principle, Integrity."

In terms of advertising their use of new media most of the parties highlight a variety of web-based activities. While I’m sure they are active on the web, the Alliance Party are the only party not to include some reference to a website or social media – surely an oversight? According to this morning’s leaflets it’s The Green Party who are most active on the web:

Although I’m not quite sure what they get up to on myspace!

Very interesting analysis Stu! I do really think Ian Parsley (have always wondered whether he was chosen to win over a few short-sighted people from the DUP) should shave before he has his pic taken, or better still, take the Alban Maginness line of not appearing on the front of his election literature at all.

It will be very interesting to see whether Jim Allister retains his seat. An incumbent always has an advantage, but he’ll struggle against the mighty DUP election machine now that he’s left the ship.

Oh, and ‘Ulster Unionists’ indeed – I think you mean Conservatives and Unionists!

Well spotted! Although if we are going for 100% accuracy surely that should be: “Ulster Conservatives and Unionists – New Force.”
